After applying the first coat of Rosco Foam Coat...

Help!

Any advice on how to get a really good finish on this car would be appreciated. I've purchased some Foam Coat from Hot Wire Factory, but I'm having limited success. Perhaps I just haven't got the hang of mixing it right yet! Rosco Foam Coat is another option, but quite expensive.

And sit back and wonder how the hell you are going to give the whole vehicle a smooth finish?

Start to fill gaps and holes...

Mark headlight positions...

Sand more detail into the front wings...

Cut wheels using a band-saw. Add layers of MDF for strength...

To get a smooth, shaped finish...

Before shaping with sandpaper...

Roughly shape the rear wings with a hot knife...

Add a radiator grill...

Start to shape the front wings...

Add a dashboard, windscreen and steering wheel...

Shape the bonnet or 'hood' (in Grease speak)...

Cut polystyrene blocks to the correct size...

And a boot (or trunk). Mount the middle section on industrial strength castors (the polystyrene wheels will not take the weight of the car or passengers). The front and back end are not supported by castors; they are secured to the solid middle section...

Add doors...

Make a full-size frame out of timber. Make the car in three sections for transport purposes. The three sections are secured together using threaded rod...

Add wheels and a steering wheel...

 First stage...build a scale model of the car.

This is my blog cataloguing the building of 'Greased Lightning'; the car from the musical 'Grease'. The car is to be used in our school performance of Grease in July 2012.
